THE TASMANIAN GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB INC

BREED SPECIALTY SHOW 2/11/08

I felt it an honour and a privilege to be invited to judge your lovely Goldens and am delighted to say that I was not disappointed in any way. Their temperament was excellent, as it should be, but sadly this is not so ‘the world over‘ . Condition and presentation were also very good. Your hospitality was excellent and a big thanks to Ingrid for keeping the ring running smoothly.

My sincere thanks to Kaye and all the hard working team for making our first visit to your wonderful country such a memorable one, it is a trip we will never forget.

Thank you to all the exhibitors for bringing their lovely dogs for me to judge. I found in most classes very close decisions, the quality being very good, and am sure you change places many times at shows.

It must be so hard to keep quality and conformation, as well as health issues, to the fore with such a small group, I applaud you, I was very impressed, compared to some other countries. I have judged in.

I am quite sure if many of you competed in the UK, you would give us a run for our money. Hope to see some of you at Crufts!

Minor puppy dog

1. Mrs D Petterwood’s Goldew McDreamy

Quality youngster with lovely head and expression well angulated both front and rear with balanced body and level topline. Sound in movement, a lovely type.

2. Mrs H Morrison’s Kaparla Wicketkeeper

Lovely youngster showing lots of promise. Lovely head with soft expression, well balanced with good angulation and level topline. Just preferred movement of 1.

Liked this boy for his overall type, well balanced with good head and expression, straight front and correct shoulder angulation, strong bone with neat feet. Level topline, well angulated rear. Moved well.

Good type with lovely head and well balanced throughout with good angulation. Needs to develop a little in rear. Level topline. Moved okay.

Another good youngster with lovely head. Good balance and all round conformation, would prefer more upper arm, tailset could be a little better, moved okay.

Quality boy of super type with lovely head and expression, very well balanced throughout, good neck, straight front with good shoulder angulation, strong bone. I forgave him for carrying his tail a little high as his tailset is correct and felt his other qualities outweighed this.

2. Mrs B Bests’ Neikaglen Jazz Singer

Good type with lovely head, well balanced throughout with good angulation, level topline, and tailset could be a little better, good rear angulation. Moved okay but could have more drive and enthusiasm.

My notes say “3 lovely youngsters.”

1. Mrs D Petterwood’s Larbellah Cheer Leader

Quality youngster with clean outline, soft feminine head, excels in neck and shoulders, straight front with good bone and feet, very well balanced body with level topline, well developed rear giving sound and stylish movement, shown in lovely coat and condition.

2. L Binns’ Blazedngold Ebonie Eyes.

Stylish lovely girl with sweetest of heads, Loved her type, good neck and shoulders, straight in front with good bone and feet. Very well balanced with level topline and good rear angulation giving sound movement. In lovely coat & condition.

3. Mrs B Best’s Neikaglen Sheer Bliss.

Completing the trio with another quality girl, feminine head, so very well balanced throughout, good in neck and angulation front and rear, good body proportions, level topline, moved okay, tends to stand with front legs too far forward which makes her look lacking in front angulation.

Intermediate bitch

1. Mrs J Grierson’s Goldlake Summer Breeze. BCC & RBIS

Quality lady of super type with feminine head and soft expression, loved her overall balance and movement, excels in neck and shoulder angulation, straight front with good bone and feet, level topline, deep well ribbed body, well developed quarters which she used to give sound and stylish movement.

Interesting to read later she is a daughter of my State Bred winner, dam of my minor puppy winner, & her sire was my BIS winner 1 week before at GRC of Victoria’s show.

2. Mrs J Bliss’ Swifttreve The Snowqueen.

Lovely girl and close up to 1. Sweet head, good neck and angulation all round with straight front & good bone. Well balanced in body with good rear angulation, level topline, very sound on the move.

3. Mrs H Morrison’s Xanthos Are You Talking To Me (Imp UK)

Lovely type with feminine head and soft expression. Good neck and front angulation, well ribbed body with level topline, would prefer a little more length of leg to balance up, strong well angulated rear giving very sound movement, unfortunately she was carrying too much weight today which cost her a higher placing.

State bred bitch

1. Mrs J Grierson’s Ch Kaparla Such Is Life

Quality bitch of lovely type, feminine head with soft expression. Excels in neck and front angulation, straight front, Very well balanced with well ribbed body, level topline, and good rear angulation giving positive movement.

2. Mrs H Morrison’s Ch Kaparla Guilty As Charged

Different type but also with so much quality. Feminine head with lovely expression excels in neck and shoulders, straight front, well balanced body with level topline. Strong quarters which she used to move out well.

2 worth champions.

Australian bred bitch

1. Mrs H Morrison’s Chaleur Wearing Prada

Loveliest bitch of super type, so very well balanced with lovely feminine head and expression, excels in neck and shoulder angulation, straight front with good bone and feet. Deep well ribbed body with level topline, strong well angulated quarters, moved soundly. Shown in super coat and condition. Thought she was to be my ‘star of the day’ but unfortunately I felt she lacked so much in confidence that I could not give her top honours, but she certainly deserved her class, I hope this comes with age, she is certainly quite outstanding.

2. B & S Courtney’s Ch Toriade Timsbury

Close decision between 1 and 2, with little to separate them but so different types. Well balanced quality girl with feminine head, good neck and shoulders, straight front with good bone. Body of good proportions, with level topline. Strong, well develped rear angulation giving sound movement. Shown in full gleaming golden coat and super condition.

3. L J Binns’ Ch Blazedngold Innocent Eyes

Lovely type with feminine head, good neck and angulation front and rear, straight front with good bone. Well ribbed body with level topline. Very well balanced throughout with good movement, shown in lovely coat and condition. Just preferred front angulation of 1 & 2.

Open bitch

1. Mrs B Best’s Neikaglen Moet Chandon RES BCC

Lovely girl who teems quality, most beautiful head and expression, straight front with strong bone, excellent shoulder angulation, level topline, deep well ribbed body with good balance throughout. Well angulated rear giving good movement. In lovely coat and condition.

Her tailset could be a little better but I felt her overall quality far outweighed this. Just wish she had a little more animation to take her to the top, she has so much to like about her

2. Mrs J Bliss’ Ch Swifttreve Celebration

Close up to 1. Lovely type with feminine head and soft expression, good neck, shoulders and front with good bone and feet. Well balanced, well ribbed body with level topline, good quarters giving very sound movement .
