The Tasmanian Golden Retriever Club Championship Show.

18th August 2012

Judge: Mrs. Wendy Andrews U.K. (Catcombe)

I would like to thank the Committee for inviting me to judge and to everyone for making my stay in Tasmania so pleasant.  You are all such a friendly lot and I thoroughly enjoyed my few days with you all. Other than the chill wind, the venue was an ideal location for this well run show, with my ring steward Steve keeping such good order and guiding me through.

General remarks.

Huge improvement in upper arm and shoulder angulation since my last visit ‘down under’. Toplines and angulation of the stifle joint, I can say almost without exception, were excellent.

I was thrilled with both my line-ups for the challenges, and I was spoilt for choice as the quality was so high.  I was very impressed with the dog challenge in particular, where I had four top class dogs of similar type and construction. Choosing my CC and reserve CC winners from them made it a hard task, but a most pleasurable one.

BEST IN SHOW

Handley’s & Petterwood’s  CH LARBELLAH TEAM LEADER

S: Ch Acacian Special Event D: Ch. Giltedge Angel Dust

RUNNER UP TO BEST IN SHOW

Grierson’s CH GOLDLAKE ONCE UPON A TIME

S: Ch Acacian Special Event D: Ch. Goldlake Summer Breeze

BABY PUPPY DOG   2/2

Two beautiful puppies, with similar attributes,  - very hard to separate, and I can be forgiven for thinking they were litter brothers!  –I was splitting hairs in the final decision, 1 being a little shorter in loin than 2.  I loved them both.  and similar remarks apply.

1 Grierson’s  BEAUCROFT SHOW ME THE WAY

S: Ch. Burrugundy Brace Yourself E.T. D:Beaucroft  Devil Wears Prada

2 Binns’ BLAZEDNGOLD KINGS OF WINGS

S:  Blazedngold Imported Jeans D: Blazedngold Divine Rebel

They both showed with confidence and moved around the ring with style. Pale, glamorous coats, good body proportions, good head shapes and the sweetest of expressions. Dark eyes, clean necks into level toplines.  Both had good layback  of shoulder and well bent stifles.  I am sure they will change places many times during their show careers and I wish them both well for the future.

 MINOR PUPPY DOG  1/1

1 Wadsley’s  TWEEDWATER ROYAL FUSILIER

S: Ch. Giltedge Blackwatch D: Ch. Beaucroft Fait Accompli

A well grown youngster with a happy extrovert nature. A lovely head and expression. Very good each of neck, good shoulder placement and well bent stifles. Good topline with well set-on tail which he used well! Lovely bone and tight feet. Strong driving movement around the ring.

PUPPY DOG 2/1

1 Morrison’s  KAPARLA FORMULA ONE (AI)

S: Swd.Ch. Floprym Rivaldo D: Ch. Kaparla Rhythm OMy Heart

Beautifully proportioned with a super outline. Excellent bone and good substance. I loved his head, dark eye and pigmentation with melting expression.  Well put together with good shoulders and bend of stifle.  Tended to roll a little on the move but this is very much an age thing which he will surely grow out of.  A promising one for the future.

JUNIOR DOG 1/1

1 Evans’  KAPARLA ME MYSELF & I (AI)

S: Xanthos Espionage JW. SGWC (UK) D: Xanthos Are You Talking To Me (ImpUK

Shown in hard muscular condition with shining coat and beautifully presented.  Tail a trifle low set but otherwise a good topline. Good angulation fore and aft.  I did love his well chiseled head, with the true gentle expression one expects from our breed.  He has such a kind eye with good pigmentation.

Nicely shown and handled and he moved most energetically.

INTERMEDIATE DOG 6/5

1 Handley’s & Cooke’s Ch. GOLDEW SOUTHERN SON

S: Ch. Larbellah Take The Lead D: Goldew Jubiation

Stood out for me. A top class dog with everything I like. Super head, a classic profile which was well angulated fore and aft, with a level topline, good tailset. Short couple. In excellent coat and hard muscular condition and  moving with accuracy and drive.  A dog from the top drawer.

2 Bliss’s OCEANVIEWS HAPPY DAYS

S: Ch. Oceanviews Got To Luv Me D: Swifttreve The Snowqueen

Another nice one with  good body proportions and correct length of leg. Excellent stifle angulation, very good topline held on the move.  A dog in excellent condition and moving accurately and strongly around the ring.

3 Binns’ BLAZEDNGOLD IMPORTED JEANS.

S: Ch. Sequins Sashi (Imp Neth) D: Ch. Blazedngold Inocent Eyes

An elegant, paler coated boy so nicely presented. Just lacking a little pigment today. Good bone and feet and well put together. A happy disposition and moved as one with handler.

4 Evans’ KIRIEL HEAVENS LEADER

S: Ch. Larbellah Take The Lead  D: Ch. Fernfall Beyond Heaven

STATE BRED 2/2

1 Beaucroft Knl’s CH LARBELLAH TAKE THE LEAD

S: Ch. Acacian Special Event D: Ch. Giltedge Angel Dust

I just loved this super dog.  I see he has the same sire as the CC winner and has the same classic profile and virtues. In beautiful coat and condition. He has everything I admire, together with that special stamp of quality.

Strongly considered for the Reserve CC and narrowly missed out.

2 Jeffery’s  KAPARLA ITS RAINING MEN CCD RN

S: Ch Golden Rose-Bays Drummer Boy (Imp Belg) D: Chaleur Glamour Puss

He has a well chiselled head and kindly expression.  Looked rather heavy over the shoulders and needed a bit more trimming to show them off better. Carried his tail too gaily on the move which spoilt his topline. Shown in super condition and sympathetically handled.

AUS BRED 4/4

1 Stephens’ CH BURRAGUNDY BRACE YOURSELF ET.

S: Ch. Fetchnpoint Knee Jerker ET D: Ambermist Keepsake

A mature, quality, balanced, masculine example of the breed. Shown in superb coat. Super profile and well laid shoulders. Head rather domed but has a kind, dark eye.  Deep ribcage, strong loin and deep quarters with well muscled second thigh and excellent turn of stifle. Very sound free moving action with ground coverage. Very ‘showy’ and responsive to handler. A lovely dog from any angle. – Reserve Dog C.C.

2 Hofto’s RALUN ZEN THERE WAS WILSON TD

S: Ch. & NZ Ch. Goldtreve Camrose Kraka D: Ralun Won N Only

A nicely constructed dog, just comimg into full coat, but still needing more feathering to complete the picture. Masculine head with typical ‘golden’ expression. I loved his arched neck of good length, flowing into shoulders.  Very level topline and tail carriage held on the move. Good bone, tight cat-like feet. Good substance and ribcage. Moved well.

3 Handley’s & Petterwood’s  CH GILTEDGE BAND OF BROTHERS (AI)

S: Eng.Sh Ch Erinderry Just The Ticket From Bluewaters JW D: Ch. Giltedge Angel Dust

Not as mature as above and rather pegged back by lack of furnishings. Of good size and body proportions with a gorgeous head and expression.  Could do with more angulation.  Moved and handled very well.

OPEN DOG 3/2

1 Handley’s & Petterwood’s  CH LARBELLAH TEAM LEADER

S: Ch Acacian Special Event D: Ch. Giltedge Angel Dust

WOW! Filled my eye completely.  Wished I could have smuggled this one home - What a fabulous dog!  Outstanding profile, balance and construction with good straight bone.  Lovely masculine head and expression without a trace of coarseness. Excellent reach of neck, flowing into level topline, well set-on tail carried level when moving.  Excellent lay of shoulders with correct length of upper arm and showing a good fore-chest. Shown in superb coat and condition and moving with thrust and power and a long easy stride.  He would be hard to beat in such good form. Dog C.C. and Best in Show.

2 Morrison’s NZ CH AUST.SUPREME CH KAPARLA WICKETKEEPER

S: Aust Grand Ch Tulzean Autumn Tango  B: Xanthos Are You Talking To Me (Imp UK)

A very nice dog who moved extremely well.  Well chiselled head, kind eye -  just lacking a little in pigmentation today. Straight front with super bone and tight feet. Very strong well muscled quarters. Stood fore square with level topline, and good tail carriage. Moved with accuracy and power, driving off his hocks.

VETERAN DOG 2/2

1 Grady’s & McNee’s GR CH. LIONSFIELD WALTER LADD CCD ET

S: Goldog Alpine Aftautumn D: Lionsfield Lady Tegwen.

His coat, condition and movement belied his age.  He certainly did not look a veteran! So nicely handled, free standing with a happy wagging tail.  I liked his well chiselled head and gentle expression with such a kind eye. Good reach of neck. Good couplings, level topline held on the move and well turned stifles and well muscled quarters. Moved as one with his handler.

2  Beaucroft Knls & Wadsley’s  GR CH GILTEDGE THE POET

S: Aus Ch Standfast Dream Ticket from Kerrien (ImpUK) D: Ch Giltedge Charlotte

Beginning to show his age on the move – which let him down - but still a lovely dog with a super head and gentle eye and expression. Nice body proportions,  good bone and feet. He has such a happy disposition and was thoroughly enjoying his day out. A dog to be proud of.

A very balanced, compact puppy with super angulation of shoulders and stifles.  Lovely feminine head with a dark kindly eye, reachy neck, level topline and so sound on the move.  Should do well in the future.

2 Stevenson’s TWEEDWATER LADY MARCIA

S: Ch. Giltedge Blackwatch D: Ch. Beaucroft Fait Accompli

Fell for her beautiful head and expression with such a kindly dark eye. A little longer cast than winner but again with a well constructed front assembly.  Plenty of substance and good rib cage. Moved very well for one so young.

PUPPY BITCH 2/1

1 Wadsley’s HEATHBROOK DREAM A  LITTLE DREAM

S: Ch. Giltedge Band of Brothers D: Giltedge Evita

Came into the ring as if she owned it with strong, powerful striding movement! Compactly made  with excellent topline and well set-on tail which she carried level.  Excellent bend of stifle, good bone, short hocks, strong pasterns and good spring of rib.  She has a most feminine head and sweetest expression.  A lovely puppy.

JUNIOR BITCH 1/1

1 Flower’s KAPARLA TAKE ME AS I AM (AI)

S: Eng Ch Xanthos Espionage JW SGWC  D: Xanthos Are You Talking To Me (Imp UK)

I see she is litter sister to my junior dog winner.  A quality girl with super balanced profile. She has a good head and expression, although lacking a little pigmentation on nose. I can forgive this for her other virtues. Good reach of neck, straight round bone and good cat-like feet.  She does have a very good reach of neck flowing into withers and a good bend of stifle.  Shown in lovely coat and condition. Reserve Bitch C.C.

INTERMEDIATE BITCH 4/2

1 Grierson’s  CH. NARAGOLD GEORGIE GIRL

Nothing exaggerated about this young lady with pleasing proportions and sound as a bell. Feminine head with dark pigmentation and kindly eye.  Good reach of neck, straight front, good shoulders placement and strong quarters.  Carrying the right amount of weight and in good muscular condition.  Accurate footfall and  driving movement.  Very nice indeed.

STATE BRED BITCH 3/3

1 Grierson’s  CH GOLDLAKE ONCE UPON A TIME

What a lovely bitch - she never stopped showing herself off for a second and I was captivated.  Super head,  good reach of neck, into level topline, good shoulder angulation,  straight front, superb bend of stifle, short coupled. She moved with grace and power, driving around the ring effortlessly, and with panache.

2 Binns’ BLAZEDNGOLD DIVINE REBEL

S: Blazedngold Doubl Troubl D: Blazedngold S.G. Atlantis

AUS BRED  BITCH 3/2

I found this class difficult to judge.

1 Grierson’s  GOLDLAKE HEART BEAT

S: Ch. Oceanviews Got To Luv Me D: Goldlake Suicide Blonde.

A beautiful bitch who tended to crouch into her angulation when stacked, but relaxed and upstanding on the move. She has correct body proportions, well constructed with a pleasing profile, very good shoulder lay back with good length of upper arm.  Level topline, good set-on of tail, excellent bend of stifle.  Lovely gentle head with soft expression, good reach of neck  flowing into shoulders.

2   Wadsley’s GILTEDGE EVITA

S: Ch Larbellah Take The Lead D: Ch Giltedge All About Mary.

Another good bitch, not quite the reach of neck of winner, but none the less one from the top drawer. Feminine head, very level topline, excellent bend of stifle, firm muscled quarters.  Shown in lovely coat with good feathering and handled to advantage.

OPEN BITCH 4/2

1 Stevenson’s & Beaucroft Kennels CH BEAUCROFT FAIT ACCOMPLI

2 Bliss’s CH OCEANVIEWS SOUTHERN BELLE
