BREED SPECIALTY SHOW - SATURDAY 17th AUGUST, 2013


I would like to heartily thank the club for the opportunity to judge your Goldens and to once again see a little more of the beautiful “Apple Isle”.  The hospitality extended to us by the club and its members has been wonderful, and luckily the weather, although not as good as the recent  "UK Heatwave", was pleasant enough and proved the weather bureau to be wrong.

A big thanks must go to my steward Steve and card writer Colin, and also to Mary our caterer.  Congratulations to the club for the trophies and beautiful sashes - with such a small club you really put on a good show indeed.  The exhibitors seemed to take my decisions well and the atmosphere around the ring was congenial.

I found the quality of the exhibits overall to be generally very good.  The indoor concrete flooring may not have allowed some exhibits to move as well as they might normally do outside. Overall I found most toplines to be nice and level, no major issues with bites, good presentation of the exhibits, good size and correct height to length  proportions in most exhibits, and good temperament on display. I did see some light/"winter" noses and a couple of exhibits could have had darker eyes, and, a recurring problem in the breed world-wide, a number of exhibits were short in upper arm &/or lacked pro sternum. I was very pleased to see the number and quality of exhibits in the younger classes, especially as these Goldens represent the future of the breed in your state. You seem to be steering a good path in this regard. Best wishes for the future.

Baby Puppy Dog ( 4 Entries,  0 Absent)

1 Blazedngold GameOn - L Binns.   Best Baby in Show
A promising young lad, just 4 months old.  Balanced head with good pigmentation and correct eye and ear-set.  Developing his coat and structure, well angled fore and aft. Strong neck into well-laid back shoulders.  Good  spring of rib with rib cage carrying well back. He held his topline on the move, and moved with purpose and drive, obviously really enjoying his first day out.

2 Heathbrook On My Own - J & D Wadsley
Close decision between 1 & 2 in a quality class. Again this boy, just on 3 months, is a very promising youngster. Head developing nicely with correct skull shape and balance. Good reach of neck and flow into good lay of shoulder. Ribs well sprung with short coupling. Very good biddable attitude.

3 Goldlake It's About Time - J Jeffrey
An older boy of 5 months who is going through the growth stage. Moved out well with a happy attitude. Not quite the front or rear angles of the two placed above him.

An exuberant cream boy who was keen to move and show. A young adult with a masculine head and good pigmentation.  Shoulders well laid back, good spring of rib with rib cage of good length. Short coupled with well arched loins. Well coated and well presented on the day.

2 Blazedngold Kings of Wings -L Binns
Another quality male and another close decision. Head of correct proportions with a gentle expression. Slightly longer cast than number 1. Coat in good order with correct texture. Good feet shape with well let-down hocks.

Intermediate Dog ( 1 Entry,  0 Absent)

1 C Kiriel Il Divo - E Mitchell.    Best Intermediate in Show
A gold boy a few months off 3 yrs old. Good bone and structure. Super topline with smooth flow of neck into his topline. Coat sufficient for his age. Masculine head with correct bite. Slightly longer cast, and body  yet to mature to full potential.

State Bred Dog ( 2 Entries,  0 Absent)

1 Blazedngold Imported Jeans - L Binns. Best State Bred in Show
A boy that caught my eye as soon as he entered the ring. Balanced in all parts. Masculine head with a gentle expression. Reach of neck and flow into topline was excellent. Ribs well sprung, and his correct angles both fore and aft meant that he could use his structure to move effortlessly with correct reach and drive. It was my pleasure to award this boy the DCC and BIS awards.

2 Tweedwater Royal Fusilier - J & D Wadsley
Unlucky to come up against the BIS dog in the same class. A pleasing shape with good angles front and back. Coat was correct texture and with good furnishings.  Did not move as well as number 1.

Australian Bred Dog ( 2 Entries,  0 Absent)

A longer cast dog with a very masculine head. Showed with confidence and enthusiasm. Very good topline and tail set. Lacking full coat today.

2 Kaparla Ready Aim Fire - J Laker
A very exuberant male who tested his handler. A pleasing head and well coated. Would prefer a wider second thigh and more turn of stifle.

1 Oceanviews Happy Days - J Bliss.   Best Open in Show
Another quality dog shown in good working order. Well muscled and firm in topline. A strong masculine   head with a slight winter nose on the day - however this did not negate his other pleasing attributes. Moved with purpose,reach and great foot placement. A pleasure to award him the RDCC and R/U BIS.

Veteran Dog ( 1 Entry, 0 Absent)

1 Gr Ch Giltedge The Poet - Beaucroft Knls & J & D Wadsley. Best Opposite Veteran in Show
Almost 9 years old this mature boy gave his best and moved out well on the day. Not carrying a lot of coat. Still holding a good topline standing and on the move. Good angles front and back. Carrying a little extra weight today.

The winner of a quality class. A balanced young lady with a pleasing feminine head and kindly expression.  Super topline which she held in the move. Moved true with good reach and drive. Well angled with good second thigh.

2 Blazedngold Legendary Beauty - L Binns
Another quality bitch. Well balanced head, dark pigmentation, good reach of neck. Solid bone with well let down hocks. Moved out well and was enjoying her day out.

3 Blazedngold Princess Warrior -L Binns
Another close decision. A well angled young girl, well presented. Good bone, pleasing head, good spring of rib, short loin. A little down on her pasterns on the day.

Eleven month old girl, maturing nicely. Pleasing head and expression. Nice dark eye, cat like feet, straight solid bone. Straight topline and very good  tail set. Ribs well sprung. Moved well on the day.

A well conformed young bitch.  Great outline on the stack. Balanced head, good reach of neck, level topline, coat coming on well. Underline still to fully develop.

Intermediate Bitch ( 2 Entries,  0 Absent)

1 Tweedwater Lady Marcia - P Stevenson
A strong and well built bitch, but still feminine. Good solid straight bone. Tight cat like feet. Ribbed well back. Not in full coat on the day.

2 Heathbrook Dream a Little Dream - J & D Wadsley
A shorter bitch in height than number one, but still correct size. Well angled with good pigmentation. Correct double coat. Well let down hocks. Carrying extra weight on the day.

A mature young bitch. Pleasing outline. Well angled fore and aft. Feminine head, super topline, well let down hocks. Moved and handled well.

2 Blazedngold  Divine Rebel - L Binns
A slightly lighter frame than number one. Again a pleasing feminine head. Well angled, low hocks, short coupled, well sprung in ribs. In good coat. Would prefer less angle in croup.

3 Oceanviews Tess - L Rand
A cream girl yet to fully mature. A pleasing expression, great reach of neck and flow into topline. Not the hindquarters of numbers one and two.

This nearly 10 yr old elegant lady moved around the ring like a bitch half her age - effortlessly and with excellent reach and drive. Full of quality - everything was there. Balanced in head and body. Good angles fore and aft, well laid back in shoulders with equal upper arm. Good spring of rib, turn of stifle and what a topline! It was my pleasure to award her the BCC and Veteran in Show.

2 Ch Swiftreve Celebration - J Bliss
A quality 9 year old, well angled and with good coat. Moved well, however carrying too much condition on the day.
